Welcome to the “Factory of the Future” in Le Mans
After three years of remodeling and rebuilding, CLAAS is excited to begin improved production practices in their modernized tractor factory in Le Mans, France. Innovation for the company reigns true as the plant builds individually configured tractors using state-of-the-art digital technologies.
“Our completely refurbished plant in Le Mans raises the bar for the production of premium and connected agricultural tractors,” says Thomas Böck, Chair of the CLAAS Group Executive Board. “We have therefore opened a new chapter in the continued growth of our global business.”
After an update that cost more than €80 million, the revitalized Le Mans factory is expected to produce more than 13,000 tractors every year once it’s running at capacity. The plant will export to more than 80 countries worldwide.
With cutting-edge technology and newly renovated spaces, employees are prepared for increasing demand for individually configured tractors. Renovations have created larger, ergonomically designed workplaces along the assembly line, where automated guided vehicles (AGV) transport tractors to every point on the assembly line. The Le Mans plant also features state-of-the-art LED lighting technology and new logistics infrastructure to ensure only needed parts are delivered to the assembly line.
“Besides efficiency, the work conditions were our main priority in designing the new manufacturing facility,” explains Dr. Martin von Hoyningen-Huene, Head of the CLAAS Tractor Unit and Member of the Group Executive Board. “We have achieved a substantial improvement in workflows and ergonomics, which will help to increase the concentration and motivation of our staff. Like the new logistics, this is a fundamental ingredient to produce tractors according to the most rigorous quality standards.”
